A graduate of the University of Illinois College of Medicine, he also has a degree in mathematics from Washington University (St. Louis, Missouri). biotech (Richard Dyke)

Born in 1969, Rich watched Star Trek from a very early age. When he grew up, he found it hard to get a job, and at 19, while doing a typing course, he started writing his stories for practice, rather than stick to the prescribed work. He got a degree in accountancy and finance as a mature student in 1995, and possibly would have got a higher passing grade if he had spent more time studing and less time writing! He has been trying to get his science fiction stories published since 1992, and recently got his first small scale success with his co-authorship of "It's Not Fair". His favorite Star Trek character would have to be Kirk. Rich was married in July 2004, and became a father to a boy in December of the same year.

Collard, Sally

Sally Collard is a UK television journalist and factual film producer, so she writes for a living, but she has only recently started writing fiction, including fanfiction. Her first brush with Star Trek was in the 1970s when she became a fan watching occasional re-runs of TOS during the lead up to Star Trek: The Motion Picture. She remembers her school fan group collecting fanfiction, posters and blueprints of the Enterprise in the days when it took a lot of ingenuity to track that stuff down and you had to wait weeks for the post to arrive from the US. She realizes now that she never saw a lot of the original episodes, only read about them. Sally left school, studied in the States for a while, then travelled and worked around the world, got married and had two children (now teenagers). Although she saw all the movies and enjoyed TNG and Voyager, she only really came back to Trek in 2012 when the original episodes were being repeated in the UK on a cable channel, and she had an extended period of illness so was able to watch them consecutively. That also meant she had the time to start experimenting with writing fiction. To celebrates a landmark birthday, she and her former school friends booked tickets to Destination Star Trek in October 2012 where she ended up interviewing Bill Shatner for British television. She would love to hear feedback on her stories.

D

Davis, Carol

Carol Davis is a first-generation Star Trek fan -- she began watching TOS with her dad during its original NBC airing, but it wasn't until Star Trek IV premiered in 1986 that she became involved in the world of fanfic. The Dianasian Gift, her first effort, was followed by a TOS/TNG crossover novel, Rendezvous, and a number of Star Trek: The Next Generation novellas and short stories. In 1991, a script she submitted to the TNG "slush pile" earned her a Writers' Guild of America internship during the series' fifth season, an honor she considers to be one of the high points of her writing career as it allowed her to work with and learn from Ronald D. Moore and the late Michael Piller. After TNG, Carol began writing Quantum Leap fanfic. Her story "My Brother's Keeper" won the 1994 Fan Quality Award for best Quantum Leap gen story. Carol's Quantum Leap pro novel Obsessions was published in 1997, followed in 2000 by Mirror's Edge, which as the final novel in the QL series allowed her to have the "last word" on the adventures of time traveler Sam Beckett. She currently works as a legal secretary but stays active in fanfic; her most recent efforts are a novel and several short stories based on the Planet of the Apes TV series.

The Dianasian Gift -- first published as a novella in 1992.

Dickenson, Chris

Chris Dickenson's introduction to Classic Trek consisted of catching "Way To Eden" in syndication in the 70's. Inexplicably she became a trek fan anyway. She is a retired nurse and the daughter of a country doctor, so she has always adored Leonard McCoy and enjoyed featuring him in her stories. Chris is also a filk performer, writing and performing media science fiction music. As one of the Duras Sisters, and more recently as a Harmony Heifer she has been featured on "Masquerading as Human", "Rubenesque," and "Harmony Heifers" CD's and has performed at numerous science fiction conventions. Chris lives in Phoenix, Arizona with her husband Patrick and three cats. She has a 22 year old daughter, Elizabeth, who lives in New Zealand.

Dixon, Steven K.

After 20+ years in active TV production, he hung up his producer title in 2005 and switched to web work. Currently he is a web producer for FOX 5 (WAGA-TV) in Atlanta. At present, he resides in Peachtree City, Georgia, having relocated from Valdosta, Georgia in 1998. He is fifty-something years old and married with three children. He is a veteran of the United States Marine Corps, having served from June 1975 to June 1979, and was honorably discharged with the rank of Sergeant, having earned two meritorious promotions, a meritorious mast and the Good Conduct Medal. He worked as an aviation electrician on F-4J Phantom II's. Once he left the Marines, he went to Valdosta State University and three years later had a degree in Philosophy. While attending VSU, he had a part time job with the local TV station and has kept his hands in the TV business ever since. In 2008, he sold his first wargame design to Legion Wargames (B-29 Superfortess) and has three more in the pipeline: Hell Over Korea - 1950; Picket Duty, and Bombs Away. B-29 Superfortress was nominated by Games Magazine as best historical board wargame in 2008. Doyle, Diane

Diane has been a Star Trek fan since 1966 beginning with the broadcast of the episode, “Space Seed.” Originally, her favorite character was Spock. However, the addition of the character, Chekov, changed that. She admits to being one of the legions of teenage girls who loved Chekov. She graduated from the College of William and Mary in 1975 with a B.S. degree in Mathematics with a Computer Science option. She has been in the Information Technology field ever since, designing and implementing software in a variety of different programming languages, mostly on government contracts. She is happily married, with two daughters, one college age and the other in 8th grade. She has lived in Northern Virginia since age 13 (coincidentally the age when she also became a Star Trek fan.) She currently lives in Reston, Virginia. She attended numerous Star Trek conventions in the early 80’s and had met several of the regular characters; however, convention activity slowed down after the kids were born.

Endres, Terry

"The Adventure of the Vulcan Detective" -- first published in 1980: Stardate 7.
Sadly, this story is negatively reviewed on the Godawful Fan Fiction website by someone who apparently didn't really read the story in the first place.

Evans, Lisa

Lisa Evans has been active in science fiction fandom since 1978, when she co-founded the Smith College Science Fiction and Fantasy Society. She has been a panelist at Notjustanothercon, Boskone, Noreascon III, and co-edited Dreamlight I and II in college with future Ace editor Susan Stone. After graduating from college, Lisa was part of Adventure Architects, a game-writing consortium headed by Tor author Walter Hunt, and contributed to modules for Iron Crown Enterprises, Mayfair Games, and Steve Jackson Games.  She was the lead writer on GURPS Scarlet Pimpernel and wrote an article on female swashbucklers for the Jackson Games magazine Roleplayer. She is currently active in the East Kingdom of the Society for Creative Anachronism, where she is a companion of the Maunche and a holder of the Golden Tyger for artistic excellence. In addition to her fannish activities, Lisa is an accomplished quilter, singer, and budding church lady in the local Unitarian Universalist Society.  She will be teaching at a quilting symposium in September at Historic Deerfield in Massachusetts. Lisa has a B.A. from Smith College and an M.A. from Hartford Seminary. She works for a tour company in western Massachusetts.

"It's Not Fair" (with biotech and Rob Morris) -- first published in 2003: Antares 11

Eversole, Dave

Dave Eversole is a Computer Numeric Control Machinist who also happens to write for enjoyment, with a hopeful eye to eventual financial edification. Most of his writing is of screenplays and the script reviews for Unseen Elements. A speculative script for Star Trek: Deep Space Nine garnered him an invitation to pitch to that program back in 1995. Three of his original feature-length scripts have placed high in national screenplay competitions--one, entitled "Vasquez Rocks" (it’s a romantic comedy, Star Trek fans, and only uses that famous filming location as a metaphor) is a current quarterfinalist in Gordy Hoffman’s 2008 Bluecat Screenplay Competition. "Settlers" was his first piece of Star Trek fan fiction.

"Doctor's Orders" (adapted by Carolyn Kaberline) -- first published in February 2012

F

Frelick, Donna S.

Donna is a martial arts instructor and family maintenance engineer in addition to her "career" as aspiring writer.  She lives with her husband of 27 years, two daughters, one grandson and assorted pets in her home in Fredericksburg, VA. She grew up in Nashville, Tennessee, graduated from Beloit College in Wisconsin in 1975, and served as a Peace Corps Volunteer in West Africa before taking up her current lifestyle. "Classic Donna" has been an original-series Star Trek fan since the beginning and a Shatner fan since "Nightmare at 20,000 Feet" scared her to death at age six.  She loves exploring the dynamics between Kirk, Spock and McCoy, and counts James T. Kirk among the greatest fictional heroes ever created. She is unabashedly proud of her own creation of a fictional heroine to match him: commercial tradeship captain Kate Logan.

G

German, Cathy

"Cathy German" (a pseudonym) was born in the Midwest more years ago than she cares to admit. Post-college she moved to the Pacific Northwest, where she now resides. She has been in the paper business for years, first buying paper, then selling it to printers, then managing people who sell it to printers, then marketing it, thus completing the consumer loop. Her supportive husband is a business owner. They have a second home on an island in Puget Sound, where step-children and step-grandchildren gather for holidays, and there she writes a humor column for the local paper. Gardening and home-decorating are hobbies. Writing is her passion. "Cathy" is also a published author whose works have appeared in the PocketBooks' anthology Strange New Worlds series under her real name.

Kaberline, Carolyn

A native of Topeka, Kansas, Carolyn Kaberline reluctantly became involved in the world of science fiction and Star Trek in the mid-1970s when she was assigned to teach a high school science fiction class. However, once she found the relevance of both the television show and the genre to the real world, she became totally hooked and now lists those as her reading and viewing preferences. Kaberline earned a Bachelor of Arts in Technical Journalism from Kansas State University and a Master of Arts in Education from Baker University. She currently is a full-time high school English and Journalism teacher who has also been a freelance writer since 2006. Her articles have appeared in local, regional and national publications.

"Doctor's Orders" (adapted from David Eversole's script) -- first published in February 2012

Knauel, Elizabeth

Elizabeth Knauel has been a fan for more years than she can count, starting in the pre-Trek days of Jonny Quest and Man from UNCLE. She started writing fan fiction before she even knew there was such a thing. MUNCLE stories (which, thank heavens never saw the light of day outside her own personal diary) were the beginning. Then along came Star Trek and more personal stories. Though her first writing foray was in a different fandom, she has written a few stories for Orion Press, most notably with Nomad. Elizabeth is a registered nurse, working the night shift as the shift supervisor. When not so engaged, she is still writing, though in a different fandom at the present. Elizabeth has also edited a number of Orion Press fanzines. She was the editor of Morgan Stuart's Voyager novella, And Not Fade Away, which received a Fan Q Honorable Mention in 1998 for Best Writer & Story.

Kummer, Caroline R.

Carol has been an Original Series fan since 1966. Her first attempt at Star Trek writing was in seventh grade, when she and few friends produced their own Star Trek comic book. Thirty-five years later, she is still writing Trek while juggling the demands of a full time job as a professional news photographer and running a fifty-acre horse farm. Needless to say, finding time to write was a LOT easier in seventh grade!

Landers, Randy (Randall)

Happily married and with three wonderful children, Randy is the owner of a small copy center and print shop in Albany, Georgia. He has been active in writing fan fiction for Star Trek fanzines since 1977 (a short story published in Roberta Rogow's GRIP #4), and published his first fanzine, Stardate, in 1979. A graduate of Emory University in Atlanta, Randy has published and edited more fanzines than perhaps any other fan. In addition to Orion Press, Randy focuses a lot of time and energy coaching little league baseball teams. His favorite character is McCoy, but his most famous work would have to be Chekov's Enterprise, which came in 3rd place in the 1998 ASC Awards for Best TOS General Story. Randy's other awards include the 1989 Fan Q Award Best Fanzine & Editor and 1992 Fan Q Award Best Fanzine & Editor. (Orion Press has won seven Fan Q's over the years, in fact.)

Landon, David

As a child, David Landon spent so much time pretending to be Captain Kirk that his mother feared he was losing his grip on reality. Although he no longer runs around the backyard having adventures with imaginary versions of Spock and McCoy, he still writes fan fiction when he has the time. Happily married since 2001, David and his wife live in north central Florida along with a hyperactive Chihuahua who believes herself to be Human.

Littleford, D.G. (Donna Ramos)

Donna is happily married and recently transplanted from Southern California to beautifully green New England. She graduated from California State University at Los Angles with a degree in English and then served an eighteen month mission in Uruguay for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. For a number of years, she worked in theater and at David Allen Productions, a stop-motion/FX studio. Over the years, she's enjoyed being a youth leader and currently serves in the children's auxiliary of her church. Donna and a friend used to create goofy cartoon parodies when Star Trek first aired on television, but she did not return to the world of fanfiction until 1996. While also writing Voyager fanfic, she finds writing for the original Trek characters to be the most enjoyable.

Morris, Rob

A lifelong resident of the Jersey Shore, Rob was born three weeks before the premiere of Star Trek, and began watching the show during its first syndicated run. In 1998, he began writing fan-fiction on the web, specializing in crossover stories. His first contribution to Orion Press (which was also his first published fanzine story) was a 24th Century Scotty story, "Dead To Me," which was a follow-up to events in Star Trek: The Wrath Of Khan. A graduate of Stockton State College, Rob is a retail sales veteran of sixteen years, now in charge of Security for Revlon Cosmetics in the state of New Jersey. In addition to contributing to Orion Press, Rob is the creator of an apocalyptic alternate universe based on the original series, called The Ancient Destroyer. His favorite character is Captain Kirk, but his stories tend to focus on the life and times of his orphaned nephew, Peter, and on follow-ups to the original Star Trek epilogues.

Perotti, Anna

Anna lives in a small town on the Eastern coast of Italy. She's an old-fashioned computer programmer, who started to work in the field when the most of people had no idea about what a computer was and all the technical material available on the subject was written in English. She has been a Star Trek fan since the late seventies, when Star Trek finally made it to Italy. She even learned English just to be able to read Star Trek books and fanzines, because there were none available in Italian. This might appear a minor detail, but if you think she had survived until then knowing just a few essential, computer-related, words... In 1989, she joined the Star Trek Italian Club and started to collaborate to the publishing of Italian fanzines, as a writer first and an editor later. Presently, she is charge of the whole job. Sometimes, in the evening, her husband comes home, looks at her furiously typing on her computer keyboard (after a whole day spent working on an another computer keyboard at her workplace) and shakes his head in bewilderment.

Schuttler, Mary

Married, no children. During the day, she does marketing and administrative work for a small Engineering - Architectural firm in Quincy, Illinois. Has been a fan since the beginning of Star Trek (does that give away her age?). In the early days, her favorite character was Spock. Then, in the 80s, she stumbled onto the Blish books and rediscovered Star Trek. Soon after, she got involved with a local Star Trek club (QUEST) that was just starting up (and celebrating their 20th anniversary this year). Began writing fan fiction soon after that, and had some stories published in Mind Meld and Vault of Tomorrow, to name a couple. The club published their own fanzine Profiles which contained two of her stories but saw limited circulation. The idea of the "scary stories" came up when she took on the job of having a spooky Star Trek story to read at the club's annual Halloween Trek party each year. Favorite character as an adult is James T. Kirk, although her favorite aspect of the classic Star Trek universe is the friendship aspect between Kirk, Spock and McCoy.

A graduate of the University of Alberta, he has a BA in psychology. His self-described forte is proofreading, and that's how he contributes to the Orion Universe as well as writing some stories that revolve around his favorite character, Sarek.

Seward, Joanne K.

A former ballet dancer, Joanne now teaches dance to children in a New York City suburb. She is happily married with one daughter whose idea of fun is playing around with the more esoteric levels of mathematics. Joanne's first foray into writing Star Trek fan fiction was a very long story titled "Savage Sunrise" which literally came to her in a dream. Her first published story, "Interlude," appeared in Idylls 6. Numerous other stories followed, many of them in zines published by Orion Press. Joanne's favorite aspect of Trek is the relationship between the "Big Three."

Solomon, Angela

Angela was born in 1959, still lives in her hometown of Houston, Texas, and work in the oil and gas bidness (surprise!). She happily lives a single life and shares her space with her three cats, a.k.a. 'the fuzzy flounders'.  She's been hooked on the original Star Trek since 1971, and her favorite character has always been Leonard H. McCoy, M.D. Since she, too, possesses quite a curmudgeonly personality, the attraction is natural. Star Trek's themes of friendship, loyalty and sacrifice also greatly appeal to her.

Trueblood, Holly S.

Holly is married with two grown daughters -- who just don't get it. She works as the Executive Director of a non-profit agency engaged in improving literacy outcomes for children who are deaf or hard of hearing. She has been a Star Trek fan since the "Fall Preview Edition" of TV Guide which came out about two weeks before the first episode aired. Oh, those intriguing ears! But it was not until 1990 that she discovered fandom, fanzines or attended a convention. Orion Press has published several of Holly's novellas, three of which Full Circle, Forever, and Only Human, are outside the "official" Orion cannon. Several of her short stories appear in editions of Tantalus and other Orion anthology zines. She has been "working" for far too long (and making precious little progress) on a novella where Kirk loses his hearing and the impact that loss has on his confidence and command. Because of the demands of her current job, she says she "has given up fiction writing for grant writing...a very short step." Holly won the 1995 Fan Q Award for Best Writer & Story for her novella, Forever, which Orion Press had the privilege of publishing.

Wright, Patricia

Patricia fell in love with Pavel Chekov when she was fourteen and immediately added writing fan fiction and Russian culture and history to her already existing obsessions with costuming and sailing ships. Her first published fan fiction was the Broken Image trilogy of novels in the early 80's: a collaboration with a friend and probably the first exploration of the mirror Klingon universe. She eventually got over Chekov and has been married for twenty three years. She has six adult children: two sons, two stepsons, a stepdaughter and a foster son, and a grandson. All of them are active science fiction fans. She lives in Massachusetts and was a LCSW and non-fiction writer for 25 years. Now retired, Patricia spends her time working with the large Russian immigrant population in her area and serving as a Russian culture consultant and speaker for local schools (who knew?); designs and administers the official Walter Koenig website and the Pavel Chekov site; designs and makes costumes for theaters, museums and friends; edits and publishes a Chekov fanzine series; volunteers at the country’s leading maritime museum; writes fan fiction and does fan art; and lends her acting talents to several museums in the fall and yuletide seasons. (She plays a 19th century Russian sailor. Big surprise.) Yeah, and occasionally she does laundry.

Zewen, Ann

Emily Ann Zewen was on the editorial staff at the Mobile Register. Ann worked in journalism for more than 30 years, beginning her journalism career as a reporter for various papers, including the Orlando Sentinel. She also assisted in coverage of several Apollo space launches. Ann passed away on August 25th 2003. She was a good friend. Her memoriam is posted here. Ann will be remembered as the editor of both IDYLLS and TANTALUS. Among the Orion Universe material, she probably would prefer to be remembered for  No Cold Wind which bridges the original series and the motion picture era, but I suspect that most will remember her for Boy Scout which details the Jim Kirk/Carol Marcus relationship. Also, check out her TANTALUS REVISITED zine on-line.
